Ground Source Heat Pump System Installation Showcase

Renville-Sibley Cooperative Power Association hosted an open house at the Dan Kramin residence on June 10th.  Dan and his family had decided to install a geothermal heat pump, and we thought this would be a great opportunity to show-case what goes into an installation.

The weather wasn’t the most cooperative, but the members that did attend got a first hand look at what can be expected when you decide to take advantage of this efficient heating and cooling option.  These photos show some of the different stages of the installation.

If you have any questions about this installation, or would like additional information on the rebates and incentives available to members installing electric heat in their homes and offices, contact Brian Jeremiason at the cooperative office.

A trench is dug to lay the tubing out.

Tubing is then laid out into the trench.  The amount of tubing and length of the trench depend on the size of the house and the heat pump.

For this project four tubes were led out and back, along with a drain tile to add moisture to the tube bed.

Each tube runs into the house and back out into the trench.

This allows the liquid to be conitnuously cycled.

The tubing comes into the house and is tied into the heat pump and duct work  It can also be combined with infloor radiant heating.

The geothermal heat pump is ultra efficient  Dan and his family will be able to heat and cool their home for about $30 a month.

Once the tubes have been pressure tested the trench can be filled in.  Eventually the lawn will return to its previous state.
