Scholarship Winners from the 2010 Annual Meeting |
The past 9 years, Renville-Sibley has participated with other Minnesota electric cooperatives in sponsoring the continuation of the Jay York Scholarship. Mr. York was a Lake Wilson farmer who dedicated his life to the rural electric program and to education in rural Minnesota. He was the first Minnesotan to serve as president of the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA). Scholarships are available each year from this program and are selected by random drawing. Each participating cooperative may submit one candidate's name for the drawing.
All scholarship applicants must be U.S. citizens and a dependent of a member of the Renville-Sibley Cooperative. They must be enrolled or plan to enroll as a full-time student in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. Applications will be accepted until February 26, 2010 and successful applicants will be notified prior to and announced to the public at the Cooperative's Annual Meeting on March 29, 2010.
A committee of Renville-Sibley Board members as well as an employee of the cooperative will select the successful candidates to receive the scholarships. The Basin Electric $1,000 scholarship, the Tom Simmons Memorial $1,000 scholarship and the 2 - $1,000 scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores and overall grade point average, work experiences, participation in school and community activities, the personal statement of career goals and the written recommendation by a third party. The remaining $1,000 scholarship will be awarded based on a combination of participation in voluntary community and school activities, work experiences, statement of career goals and a written recommendation by a third party.
Only one completed application is required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for any of the available scholarships. For more information and a scholarship application form, contact Renville-Sibley at 1-800-826-2593 or 826-2593. Application forms are also available by clicking here.
