2008 Wind Tour
Generating electricity from wind has been a hot topic recently. With all the interest in renewable energy, Renville-Sibley is offering our members a tour to learn more about wind energy. The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19th. The bus will leave the High School parking lot in Renville at 6:30 a.m.
The first stop of the day will be at Lake Benton, the “Windpower Capital” of the American Midwest to learn about the history of windmills and the wind turbines currently on the Buffalo Ridge. We will then continue on to East River Electric, which is located in Madison, SD. At East River we will enjoy a noon lunch, tour their facilities and learn more about the wind turbines that you own as a member of Renville-Sibley. From there we will travel to Watertown, SD to visit Western Area Power Association, who provides a portion of the power you receive. A final stop will be at the Pizza Ranch in Montevideo to enjoy their buffet as we want to make sure you don’t go home hungry. With a full stomach and all kinds of knowledge from the day, you will then be able to sit back and enjoy the rest of the drive home.

6:30 a.m. Depart Renville
8:30 a.m. Arrive Heritage Wind Power Learning Center, Lake Benton

10:00 a.m. Depart Lake Benton
11:30 a.m. Arrive East River
Meal/Information/facility tour
1:30 p.m. Depart East River
3:00 p.m. Arrive WAPA/tour facilities
4:15 p.m. Depart Watertown, SD
5:30 p.m. Meal - Pizza Ranch, Montevideo
7:30 p.m. Arrive Renville
